About
NYC-based soprano Lauren Green was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Most recently, she finally lived her Bugs Bunny dream of donning a spear and helmet to be a Walküre, as Ortlinde (and covered Helmwige) in New Jersey Opera Theater's production of Die Walküre. Another recent highlight was singing her third Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, this time with Palisades Opera. Keeping up with the Mozart, in the summer of 2024 she performed Vitellia in a concert version of La Clemenza di Tito with New York Opera Forum. Also with the Forum, she performed her first Nedda in I Pagliacci and the title role of Alcina, her first major Baroque role. Concert-wise, the recent highlight was making her Seattle debut, jumping in at the last minute for a friend’s concert, Sirens of Song, and debuting a new trio written by composer Sarah Mattox.

Role highlights include Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte (American Singers’ Opera Project), and the title role of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta (New York Opera Theater). In concert, she has performed Marguerite in Faust, Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Liù in Turandot. Upcoming: Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice with the New York Opera Forum.

As a recitalist, Lauren most recently performed in an all-Mozart program at the St. Frances Cabrini Shrine in Washington Heights, and gave a recital of art song at the Celebration Hall at the historic Maple Grove Cemetery in Queens.
Composer John Taylor Thomas wrote the title role of Anne Hutchinson for Lauren, giving her the privilege of originating the role of the famous rebel-puritan in his opera. Produced by Tutti Bravi Productions, the show dramatized the life of one of the earliest American feminists, her theological views, and her involvement in settling lower Westchester.

Lauren's musical theatre credits include Gilbert & Sullivan roles, such as Aline in The Sorcerer and Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, as well as Sondheim roles, such as Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music, and both Cinderella and Rapunzel in Into the Woods. Other highlights include the Raven in the fairytale-bluegrass musical The Robber Bridegroom, and the Bearded Lady in Side Show. If you've read this far in her bio, please feel free to post a picture of yourself with a beard and tag her on Instagram.
In the vein of performance art, one of her most memorable experiences was performing as an amoeba and a hominid in the cast of Generator: Pestilence Part 1 (La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club), with the run ending only several days before the pandemic of 2020. She recalls that the hazmat suits and masks from the show's prologue unfortunately came in handy following closing night.

Lauren received her B.M. from the University of Alaska Anchorage, her M.M. from the University of Oregon, and her great cheekbones, love of life, and irreverent sense of humor from her parents.

Alaska Life
Prior to moving to NYC, Lauren took every opportunity she could in her home state of Alaska. She performed and covered mainstage roles with Anchorage Opera (Frasquita in Carmen, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica), and sang in the chorus for several seasons. A huge highlight was performing Lehman Engel's opera for soprano and baritone, Malady of Love, as part of Anchorage Opera's Dark Night series.

Then a student of Kate Egan, Lauren gained some competition experience in the NATS competitions, the highlight being when in the same year she won 1st place in both the Classical Upper Avocational Division and in the Musical Theatre Adult Division.

It was also in Alaska where she gained her first experience singing with bands of different genres: country/swing, funk, and with a Tower of Power cover band!

Lauren LOVES Alaska and is always happy to go back to see family, go for a hike, and sing an impromptu aria on the trail - to scare away the bears, of course!
